ARCHIVE OF DIGITAL ART

www.digitalartarchive.at

As a pioneer in the field of Media Arts research, the ARCHIVE OF DIGITAL ART (ADA, former Database of Virtual Art) documents the rapidly evolving field of digital installation art for more than a decade now. This complex, research-oriented overview of works at the intersection of art, science, and technology has been developed in cooperation with international media artists, researchers and institutions, as a collective project.

Since todays digital artworks are processual, ephemeral, interactive, multimedia-based, and fundamentally context dependent, because of their different structure, they require a modified, we called it an ‚expanded concept of documentation‘. The ADA represents the scientific selection of several hundred international artists of approx. 5.000 evaluated artists. We ascribe high importance to artistic inventions like innovative interfaces, displays or software.

GRAPHIC ART COLLECTION GÖTTWEIG ABBEY

www.gssg.at

The GRAPHIC ART COLLECTION OF THE GÖTTWEIG ABBEY (GSSG) assembles one of the biggest private collections of baroque and renaissance prints in Austria. Abbott Gottfried Bessel (1672-1749) extended the already existing collection up to 30.000 prints and laid the foundation for the present corpus. A wide range of art historian themes offers an insight in the shifting visual cultures since the renaissance. Due to the ecclesiastical context of the collection the GSSG displays primarily, but not exclusively, Christian iconography – this thematic focus is extended by a wide variety of portraits that offer an instructive corpus for e.g. the analysis of the representation and political iconography of the contemporary nobilities. In the course of a digitalisation project conducted by the CENTRE FOR IMAGE SCIENCE (ZBW) of the Danube University a representative selection was published on www.gssg.at in order to open the collection for research purposes as well as the interested public.
